The New Year

Now that Christmas has passed (and it was an amazing one) it is time to prepare for the New Year to come, 2011!

A look back on 2010 and the great things that have happened:
- Knight Club dances (choreographing a pointe number)
- Graduation from Arcadia University with a Bachelor's in Psychology
- 10 days in Tanzania, Africa; the most amazing trip I could ever have asked for, can't wait to go back!
- Best summer ever at VCC, love you guys with all my heart!
- New Delhi, India for two weeks with Alyssa (who is now in the peace corps making us proud), Chris, Alison, and Aashish
- Student Teaching
- Getting even closer with the ten after a triumphant return from college
- Getting a job as a reading intervention specialist
- Finding out more about myself than ever after an on-going struggle of my breakup with Tommy
- Becoming a real adult, building the best relationships with the most amazing people, traveling the world, living life to the fullest, and so much more

This list really could go on forever, but these are just some key components that make 2010 a very special and very memorable year. 2011 will be brining even more excitement and happiness, and it will make us learn and grow even more. I am thankful for the past 365 days, but ready for those to come. Happy New Year everyone <3

Careers

I went to college to major in Psychology, I got my bachelor's degree in Psychology, but I am ending up becoming a teacher. Teaching isn't terrible, I wanted to be a teacher for most of my life, it just isn't what I wanted to do after four years of schooling. I only student taught just to wrap things up with school and get a certification in my secondary education minor, but after that ended the ball just kept rolling...

I ended up with a substitute position in the district where I student taught (also where I attended as a kiddo) that doesn't even start until January.

Yesterday morning, I wake up at 11AM on a nice day off to a voicemail from the Education Center for my district asking me to interview for a newer position I call "reading interventionist for PSSA's"... I don't know the official title yet... I agree to interview, the money was a much better deal and I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a "somewhat permanent" position, and next thing I know 3PM comes around and I am in an office, wearing my suit, with the Principal and an Assistant Principal talking about the 5 W's and how every student deserves an education.

Something went right, and I ended up getting the job; they told me at the very beginning of my substitute orientation, which I still had to attend. It is very exciting, and I start in January.

I don't know how this all happened, but I am happy it did. Even if teaching is not the perfect career, this is a great start. I have two jobs, I am a "real person" at 22 years old, and I am beginning my career...

Just The Beginning

The reason for the title of this entry, and I guess of this blogspot, is what it is... just the beginning. I have been done college officially for 6 months, done student teaching for almost a week, and I am beginning my first "adult job" in a few weeks. Though it may not seem like much, it is all very exciting, and though I may not be exactly where I want to be right now, because where I want to be is traveling the world as much as possible, it is a great start and just the beginning of my "real life". Not that college is not real life, or high school, or anything before that, but moving forward on my own is what is most important now. I have, in my eyes, a really great start and it will only get better.
